Angeliki Kerasidou

Angeliki’s area of expertise lies in research ethics. By combining philosophical and empirical methods, she examines the ethical implications of introducing new technologies in health research and practice.

Her current research examines trust (relational, public, epistemic) and trust-related concepts (trustworthiness, reliance, expertise, validity) in three main areas: ethics of genomics, health data ethics, and ethics of AI. She is particularly interested in the intersection between ethics and epistemology in AI-led health research, and the relationship between empathy and efficiency in AI-supported healthcare systems. Prof Kerasidou currently co-leads a three-year DFG-AHRC-funded research grant on public benefit and public trust in health data research and innovation, and is a co-investigator on a three-year ESRC-NRC-DFG award advancing the understanding of health data justice in data-driven research and care.

TEACHING AND SUPERVISION

Angeliki is a co-director of the ENAIBLE doctoral programme at the Department of Computer Science, co-leads the ethics modules for the CDT in Health Data Sciences, and MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology for Oxford Population Health.

She supervises a number of doctorate and post-doctorate research projects investigating ethical aspects of data-driven technologies and AI in health research and healthcare.

OTHER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prof Kerasidou is the Director of the Oxford Network for Sustainable and Trustworthy AI Research (OxSTAI), Academic Director of the Caroline Miles and Andrew Markus Scholarship Schemes for the Ethox Centre, Oxford Lead for the Oxford-Quebec-France Network for Future of AI, and Member of the Central University Research Ethics Committee (CUREC). She also serves as a member of TORCH/Medical Humanities Hub, for which she received a Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award in 2025.

Angeliki is an Official Fellow at Reuben College where she established and was the inaugural co-lead of the Ethics and Society academic theme She is Ethics Advisor for a number of EU-funded projects. In the past, she served as the Vice-Chair for the Independent Ethics Committee of the International Association of Cancer Research (IARC), the Ethics Manager for the MalariaGEN Independent Data Access Committee (IDAC), and was member of the Oxford Tropical Research Ethics Committee (OxTREC), and of the ELSI Group for the 1000 Genomes Project. She studied theology and philosophy in Greece, Germany and the UK, and received her DPhil in 2009 from Oxford University.
